(05/13/11) HUNTINGTON - The Huntington community is coming together to renovate the home of a soldier who was injured in Afghanistan.

Lt. James Byler, a Marine platoon commander, lost both his legs after stepping on an IED last year. After hearing his story, local lawmakers, business leaders, veteran groups and a not-for-profit organization that builds homes for veterans joined forces to make Byler's home handicapped-accessible.

The John Engeman Theater in Northport will hold a special concert June 24 to raise money for the renovation.

"This is a local veteran that was severely disabled while protecting the country, and it's on us to make this happen and we are proud to be part of it," says Kevin O'Neill, of the John Engeman Theater.

Andrew Pujol and the builders who will be making changes to Byler's home say they want to make sure he can be self-sufficient and have his own space when he returns home from Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C.
